Kardashian – One of the most iconic names in Fashion?

Some of the greatest names in fashion plus one. [/caption]I know what you’re thinking. There is no way the Kardashians should be on the same shelf as Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel and Diana Vreeland. Fashion wise, the innovation of Chanel and the insight of Vreeland should far surpass the icon-status of the Kardashians. But ask a Kardashian fan what Kim wore last week, they could tell you, but ask who Diana Vreeland was, they probably couldn’t tell you. Since I call myself a fashion fanatic, I think it is important that I understand the changing nature of fashion’s influencers. The term “influencer” itself even has a different meaning – essentially, it is anyone who shapes the directions of fashion usually through their social media presence. And oddly enough, nearly anything donned by one of the members of the Kardashian clan will quickly become one very coveted item. It is interesting that clothes don’t necessarily make the man when it comes to celebrities. In fact, it is quite the opposite. The man makes the clothes. And, the man makes the fashion trend. Imagine just how many bra-less women in sports jackets came as a result of this outfit that Kim Kardashian wore to 2017 LACMA Art & Film Gala. Well, I write this post just as a wink to fashions’ big names. And I end with two quotes: One by Vreeland and one by Chanel”A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous” – Coco Chanel
““A little bad taste is like a nice splash of paprika. We all need a splash of bad taste—it’s hearty, it’s healthy, it’s physical. I think we could use more of it. No taste is what I’m against.” – Diana Vreeland

Why this post about the old book you ask…well I was shopping at my favorite thrift store in Vallejo. And in the book department was a Chanel book for $3.98 and right next to it was this Kardashian book ($3.98 with 75% because it was a yellow tag). So, while I put the books in my basket, it just made me wonder.

Accessorizing Your Accessories – Part 2 Shoes!

Not many of us can boast of a Kardashian  shoe collection.  I personally don’t have the money or the space to truly indulge my love for shoes in that way.  But in keeping with my thoughts about adding options to the items you have, I want to talk more about accessorizing your accessories.  Not long ago I wrote about different ways to jazz up your every day bag (see http://www.silynrose.com/?p=1050).

To the untrained eye this may seem like just a row of shoes. But what I see here is opportunity.

To the untrained eye this may seem like just a row of shoes. But what I see here is opportunity.

Now it’s on to shoes.  Shoes are crucial to making an outfit look great. I am a huge fan of  pumps (especially pointy toe ones) and have them in multiple colors.

They can be great in their simple form. Check these out. A pair of Steve Madden suede green pumps, a pair of INC Concept pumps, a pair of black Miu Miu pumps, and two pairs of Aldo Stessy pumps, which are quickly becoming my favorites. (I even wrote a review on the Aldo site and asked them to please make the Stessy in orange. We’ll see what happens.)  A nice variety wouldn’t you say?

They look fine enough by themselves, but here’s where the accessorizing comes in. Shoe clips.  That’s right.  Grandma had it right.

Take a closer look. These are the same shoes adorned with shoe clips. Shoe clips are fairly inexpensive. I purchased a pair of four for $11.99 on Ebay

These little clips have the potential to add even more variety to your closet. I have added a shoe clip to each of these to give you a sense of how it works.

Below I have taken a closer shot and you can see where I have actually put the shoe clip on the side; they don’t have to placed in the front of the shoe.

A word of caution – don’t leave the clips on the shoes after you’ve worn them. You don’t want to risk damaging the shoes at all.

There you have it. Another great way to accessorize your accessories, and extend the shoe options in your closet.

Try a clip on the side like you see here.

Fall coats – You knew this was coming right?

If you look through the September and October magazines, you will see several ads and articles about coats for fall. Prada and Chanel both have great tweed coats, which I’ve talked about before. There are parkas and wool pea coats. But finding a fall coat is dependent on personal style and body type.

I think magazines bank on the fact that in the fall and winter months you start to understand that the coat IS the outfit. A cute coat goes very far in fall and winter when it may become like a second skin.

I have already shared that tweed is back with a vengeance. You can see it in several famed fashion houses. But outside of buying the “it” coat because it is on trend, what truly makes a great fall coat? Well, it depends on a few different things.

Is it a great shape for your body? Are you pear shaped – you may want a coat that floats away from the hips and has some embellishments up top to even you out. If you are an inverted pear, you definitely want to have something that minimizes the broad shoulders. Go for sleeker lines and maybe some that cinches at the waist. In the fall, I am a fan of the trench coat in the same way many women are fans of the wrap dress. It covers a multitude of sins. I like trying different belts with my trench coats because different belts give a bit of flare.
When selecting your fall coat, I also like the idea of considering location. I don’t think enough fashion magazines pay attention to the fact that fall in NY is different than fall in CA – and winters in NY or places in the Midwest are much much different than winter in CA or FL. So let’s not pretend location doesn’t matter.

Do you feel good in it? This question is becoming more and more important to me.
The coats I have shown above are coats that I like and feel they fit my style and my body type. I have them paired with shoes and bags. Though fall is often browns and auburn colors, I want to incorporate color this fall. I particularly like the green with the burgundy.

I have put the green coat with a pair of burgundy Lanvin pumps and a oversized bag with scarf. I paired the tweed coat with a pair of Aldo pink stessy pumps and a vintage patent leather structure bag
